Join Rick Severn for the first ramble of 2018 in the Dishman Hills Natural Area. Meet at the winter parking area off Appleway at 300 Sourth Sargent Road. The ramble will begin at Camp Caro and travel south past Caro Cliff to Goldback Spring. From there it will ascend the Giant's Staircase and head towards Eagle Peak along the southern edge of the original natural area. Depending on time and conditions we will visit the Lost Ponds and Nimbus Knob on our way back to Camp Caro via the Enchanted Ravine. Elevation gain is about 250 feet parts of which are repeated as we travel from location to location. Please dress for the conditions. Consider bringing trekking poles, traction devices or snowshoes, depending on conditions. Don't forget water and a snack. Winter is the perfect time to view the underpinnings of the Hills. The pace will be moderate with stops along the way to discuss the role of light, wind, water, geology and geography play in what makes the Hills so special. Please register because the Ramble is limited to 25.
This is a moderately difficult hike on rough trails. Bring water, a snack and an extra layer just in case. The hike is free and no Discover Pass is required to park at Camp Caro.
